Gangs and gang members are glamorized in the news, movies, television, video game and rap music industries. This publicity along with an increasing drug market has led to the proliferation of gangs and gang activities across the nation. Many smaller communities are now experiencing what the larger cities have been experiencing for years. This presentation will focus on how Super Gangs such as the Bloods and Crips out of California and the Chicago based street gangs, such as the People and Folk Nations, influence what occurs in Pennsylvania. We will look at physical signs of gang involvement such as gang signs, colors, tattoos, clothing, and examine the messages that are made public with graffiti. This presentation will also examine how to safely interact with these individuals and recognize their dangerous verbal and non-verbal communications. Each gang will be discussed along with how they are structured, operate and the new dangers that are present in dealing with these individuals.
